Plastic Surgeon – plastic surgery; Surgeon – breast surgery
Plastic Surgeon Tiina Strengell was introduced to medicine through her family; her father was a physician.
“When the time came to apply for higher education, a career in medicine began to look like the most interesting option. I was attracted to surgery because I have always liked working with my hands and being able to see the tangible results of my work,” she says.
Strengell joined the Helsinki Hospital team when breast surgery was added to the hospital’s repertoire. In addition to Helsinki Hospital, she works for the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa, in the Plastic Surgery and Breast Surgery Units of Töölö Hospital. She likes the flexibility of Helsinki Hospital’s operating model.
“Helsinki Hospital provides an opportunity to treat breast cancer patients with all of the available surgical techniques, and treatments can be arranged flexibly, even at very short notice,” Strengell says.
In fact, flexibility in this field is almost a necessity for Strengell; while new innovations and the continuous evolution of treatment techniques force her to stay up to date, they also enable her to get even better results.
For Strengell, who first became acquainted with the world of hospitals as a child through her father, the best thing about plastic surgery is its versatility: there is rarely a ready-made solution to the problem at hand.
“What I most like about being a surgeon is the ability to plan and implement the most suitable treatment, and then seeing the end result and that the patient is pleased with it.”
