Patrik Lassus

M.D., Ph.D., Associate professor, plastic surgeon

Plastic surgeon Patrik Lassus is in charge of the reconstructive plastic surgery center at Helsinki Hospital. In addition, he is in charge of the treatment of melanoma at the hospital.

‘It’s great to participate in the development of a new type of private hospital, where the treatment is based on centers of excellence instead of individual specialists. For example, at Helsinki Hospital the entire team of specialists is available for the treatment of cancer patients. We can take overall responsibility for patients’ recovery,’ Patrik Lassus explains.

For him, being a doctor runs in the family: his father is a dermatologist and several other relatives are also doctors. Patrik Lassus started his medical studies in 1989.

‘Quite soon I started specializing in surgery, and very soon I also knew that I particularly want to specialize in reconstructive plastic surgery. I like to work with my hands – in my leisure time, I enjoy carpentry. Reconstructive plastic surgery is the most creative field of surgery, perhaps more creative than any other field of medicine.’

Patrik Lassus draws his motivation from a very traditional source.

‘It’s the doctor’s desire to help people. This is very important work – I have no motivation problems. I can concretely see the importance of my work when patients recover or their symptoms are relieved,’ Patrik Lassus says.
