M.D., Ph.D., Associate Professor, Plastic Surgeon
Plastic Surgeon Patrik Lassus is in charge of the Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Center at Helsinki Hospital. In addition, he is in charge of the treatment of melanoma at the hospital.
“It’s great to participate in the development of a new type of private hospital where the treatment is based on centers of excellence instead of individual specialists. For example, at Helsinki Hospital the entire team of specialists is available for the treatment of cancer patients. We can take overall responsibility for the patients’ recovery,” Lassus explains.
For him, being a doctor runs in the family: his father is a dermatologist and several other relatives are also doctors. Patrik Lassus started his medical studies in 1989.
“Quite soon I started to specialize in surgery, and it wasn’t long before I also knew that I wanted to specialize in reconstructive plastic surgery. I like to work with my hands – in my leisure time, I enjoy carpentry. Reconstructive plastic surgery is the most creative field of surgery, perhaps more creative than any other medical field,” he says.
Patrik Lassus draws his motivation from a very traditional source.
“It’s a doctor’s desire to help people. This is very important work – I have no motivation problems. I can clearly see the importance of my work when patients recover or their symptoms are relieved,” Lassus says.
